No surprise that medical apps have topped over 300 apps on iTunes. At this year's RSNA, I got a chance to see over 30 medical apps for the iPhone in varying categories. Only 1 app was FREE - the Merge Mobile by Merge Healthcare in Milwaukee. The prices range from $0.99 to $49.99. According to Dr Trushar Patel, a presenter at the RSNA, the iPhone can be used for remote viewing and quality control. Cases can be viewed on the iPhone for instant on-call support or for collaboration with other clinicians. For example, the OsiriX mobile software for example allows transmission of a CT scan, which after a download of 1 to 5 minutes can be viewed by another radiologist with 99.2% success. So, the next time, you're sitting on the couch and think you have appendicitis because of your lower abdominal pain, pick up your iPhone cause there's an app for that!....okay, just joking.
